
Leigh Butler - Director of Media Relations
After more than 10 years of experience in government affairs, Butler has established an extensive network of contacts in the media and the public/private sector, and has developed a keen sense of understanding for how the media works. Butler brings a unique level of experience in fostering relationships and crafting and communicating a cohesive message for print, broadcast, and online media outlets.
Working with an experienced staff of public relations and marketing professionals, Butler is focused on expanding Wilbanks Agency's excellence in planning, managing, and executing strategic communications and media/marketing plans. Butler is responsible for developing and coordinating media relations and outreach efforts at the regional and national level, as well as state and local.
Most recently, Butler served as the District Director for Congressman Artur Davis (AL-7), managing the operations and legislative affairs of Alabama's Seventh Congressional District. Butler was also responsible for advising the Congressman and his Washington staff on appropriations and legislation, as well as crafting and communicating public policy positions as they related to the District. Prior her work with Congressman Davis, Butler worked for Jefferson County Commission President Bettye Fine Collins. Before moving to Birmingham, Butler previously was employed by Kemp Partners, a lobbying firm based in Washington, DC, headed by former HUD Secretary and Vice-Presidential nominee Jack Kemp, where she was responsible for coordinating the government relations strategies for clients including Monster.com, Penkse, Cote d'Ivoire, and the NFL. Butler and her husband, Chris, live in Hoover with their two sons.
